On the premiere of Die Gezeichneten by Franz Schreker, musicians of the Philharmonia Zurich will perform works by Franz Schreker and his contemporary Alexander Zemlinsky together with mezzo-soprano Deniz Uzun. Zemlinsky's Trio in D minor op. 3 for clarinet, violoncello and piano, composed shortly before the turn of the century, is still entirely in succession to Johannes Brahms. Schreker's dance allegory Der Wind was written for the dancer Grete Wiesenthal, one of the founders of modern dance. Schreker's two songs Sommerfäden and Stimmen des Tages for mezzo-soprano and piano are also a reflection of the sultry, morbid atmosphere of the turn of the century in Vienna. In addition to Deniz Uzun, Hanna Weinmeister (violin), Alexander Gropper (cello), Robert Pickup (clarinet), Lionel Piontet (horn) and Ann-Katrin Stöcker (piano) perform.

A wide variety of ensemble formations consisting of members of the Philharmonia Zurich will again be presenting works of chamber music in our informal, intimate Brunch & Lunch concert series this season. Together with the musicians, discover forgotten gems, unusual arrangements of well-known works, and embark upon extraordinary auditive adventures.

Brunch concerts begin at 11.15 a.m. on Sundays, followed by brunch at the Restaurant Belcanto. Concert and brunch cost CHF 6O including a welcome glass of champagne (students: CHF 52 / children 16 and under: CHF 32).

Lunch concerts – featuring the same programme – are repeated the following day at 12.OO noon, and do not include a culinary option. Tickets: CHF 2O (students: CHF 18).
