How Toxic Is the Opera Repertoire?
Society is locked in dispute over gender justice, diversity and covert discrimination. The Opera House takes up this discussion, and under the heading «How toxic is the opera repertoire?» asks directors and feminists, singers, artistic directors, diversity officers and young people how they perceive the opera’s works and stagings. It is a matter of whether the image of women conveyed by opera is still relevant today, where operas are degrading in their role clichés, and when cultural appropriation becomes a problem.
